Christy DeKoning is a professional portrait artist who is driven by a passion for self-expression through art. Commissioning a portrait
The first step is to arrange for a consultation meeting either in person or via phone/email. We will discuss all aspects of the portrait: pose, mood, setting, clothing, and other details, as well as the size of the painting and where the portrait might be displayed.
I prefer to meet and spend time with the client while taking numerous photos. This allows me to develop a unique composition which reflects the spirit and personality of the individual subject. The client is encouraged to share ideas at this stage of development. Although the ideal portrait commission allows me to meet with the subject to create life studies, and take photos, sometimes distance becomes an issue and I might work solely from photos provided by the client. In these cases I'll ask you to send me some photographs that you like, and then I will judge before starting the painting whether or not the photographs submitted provide adequate information for a good portrait.
We review the photos together, either in person or via email, and make choices about the final composition and details. I will then begin working on the painting in my studio, using only the finest artist-quality materials, to create a timeless portrait that will last for generations to come.

16"x20" Head & Shoulders $760
22"x30" Full Figure with Background $1950
These fees are a guideline only, and will vary depending on the detail, size, number of subjects and subject matter.
Travel Arrangments
If you'd like me to meet with the subject for the purpose of making notes, studies and taking reference photographs, travel and accommodation fees are extra. I'm quite open to staying in the client's home whenever possible to minimize costs when "on location".
